Comprehensive Review of the WTB Vulpine 700C Tire

The WTB Vulpine 700C Tire is designed for gravel enthusiasts and racers, offering a balanced blend of performance, durability, and versatility. With its innovative features and thoughtful design, the Vulpine stands out among its competitors in the gravel tire market.

Key Features

  • Size: 700c x 40C, ideal for gravel and mixed terrain.
  • Compound: Dual DNA compound for enhanced durability and lower rolling resistance.
  • Casing Options: Available in 60TPI and 120TPI, with the 120TPI version featuring Slash Guard puncture protection.
  • Tread Design: Tightly spaced center knobs with an almost continuous centerline for low rolling resistance while maintaining grip.
  • Weight: Approximately 381-391 grams for TCS Light and 434 grams for TCS Light + Slash Guard.
  • Compatibility: Tubeless ready for improved traction and a smoother ride.

Benefits

The WTB Vulpine 700C tire excels in various conditions, from pavement to hardpack gravel. Its dual compound rubber ensures a balance of durability and efficiency, making it suitable for both racing and recreational riding. The tubeless compatibility further enhances user experience by reducing the likelihood of flats and providing better traction.

Potential Drawbacks

While the WTB Vulpine offers many advantages, there are a few considerations. The performance may not be as optimal in extremely muddy conditions due to the tightly spaced knobs, which can hinder self-cleaning. Additionally, the price point may be higher than some basic gravel tires, making it less accessible for budget-conscious cyclists.

Comparison with Similar Products

When compared to other gravel tires, such as the Schwalbe G-One Allround and the Continental Terra Trail, the WTB Vulpine holds its ground with better rolling efficiency due to its design. However, the Schwalbe tire offers more aggressive tread patterns and better performance in muddy conditions, while the Continental focuses on durability with added puncture protection.

Practical Tips for Use

  1. Install Tubeless: If you opt for tubeless setup, ensure to use high-quality sealant and check for leaks before heading out.
  2. Pressure Settings: Experiment with tire pressure to find the sweet spot for your weight and riding style, as lower pressures can help with traction on rough terrains.
  3. Regular Maintenance: Inspect tires for cuts or wear regularly, especially before long rides, to ensure optimal performance.

Complementary Products

Customers often pair the WTB Vulpine 700C Tire with the following products:

  • WTB Riddler 700C Tire: Offers a more aggressive tread for mixed terrain, making it a great option for riders seeking versatility.
  • WTB Tubeless Sealant: Works seamlessly with the Vulpine tires for added protection against punctures.
  • WTB Wheelset: A compatible wheelset enhances the overall performance, particularly in tubeless setups.

Current Trends and Innovations

The gravel biking community is increasingly leaning towards tubeless systems for their benefits in traction and flat prevention. The WTB Vulpine aligns with this trend, offering a tire that is both tubeless-ready and designed for performance. Moreover, the focus on dual-compound technology reflects a broader industry movement towards optimizing tire materials for better ride quality and durability.

Overall, the WTB Vulpine 700C Tire is an excellent choice for gravel riders looking for a reliable and efficient tire that can handle a variety of conditions while providing a smooth ride experience.
