Key Features

  • Size: Available in 700C x 36 and 700C x 40.
  • Compound: Dual DNA compound for enhanced durability and lower rolling resistance.
  • Casing: TCS Light casing with options for 60TPI or 120TPI, with the latter providing added Slash Guard puncture protection.
  • Tread Design: Tightly spaced center knobs and an almost continuous centerline tread for low rolling resistance and off-road grip.
  • Weight: Approximately 381-391 grams for TCS Light and 434 grams for TCS Light with Slash Guard.
  • Type: Clincher, tubeless compatible for better traction and fewer flats.

Benefits

The WTB Vulpine 700C Tire provides several advantages for gravel riders:

  1. Low Rolling Resistance: The design minimizes drag, making it ideal for fast-paced rides on both pavement and hardpack trails.
  2. Enhanced Durability: The Dual DNA compound ensures the tire can withstand rough terrains while maintaining performance.
  3. Puncture Protection: The Slash Guard feature offers bead-to-bead protection, which is crucial for gravel riding where sharp objects are common.
  4. Tubeless Compatibility: Enables riders to run lower pressures for better traction and comfort, reducing the likelihood of flats.

Potential Drawbacks

While the WTB Vulpine 700C Tire has numerous benefits, there are some aspects to consider:

  • Weight: Although relatively lightweight, some competitors offer lighter options for competitive racing.
  • Casing Options: The limited casing choices may not cater to all rider preferences, especially those seeking higher TPI options without additional puncture protection.

Comparison to Similar Products

When compared to similar products like the Schwalbe G-One and Panaracer GravelKing, the WTB Vulpine holds its ground with a solid balance of speed and grip. While the Schwalbe G-One is often noted for its versatility across different surfaces, the Vulpine's unique tread pattern and puncture protection make it a strong competitor specifically for gravel-focused rides.

Practical Tips for Use

  • Optimal Pressure: Experiment with lower tire pressures when riding tubeless to enhance grip and comfort without risking pinch flats.
  • Regular Maintenance: Check for punctures and wear regularly, especially if riding on rough terrains frequently.
  • Pair with Appropriate Tubeless Sealant: Using a quality tubeless sealant can enhance the tire's performance and prolong its lifespan.

Complementary Products

Customers often pair the WTB Vulpine 700C Tire with:

  • WTB Raddler Wheelset: Designed for gravel riding, these wheels complement the tire's performance and enhance overall ride quality.
  • Tubeless Sealant: Using sealants like Stan's NoTubes can help maintain the integrity of tubeless setups.
  • Bike Repair Kits: A good repair kit is essential for on-the-go fixes, especially when tackling challenging gravel trails.

Current Trends in the Market

With the increasing popularity of gravel riding, there is a trend towards tires that offer versatility across various terrains without sacrificing speed. The WTB Vulpine aligns with this trend by providing a tire that excels in both performance and durability, catering to the needs of modern gravel riders.

Conclusion

The WTB Vulpine 700C Tire is an excellent choice for cyclists looking for a reliable and performance-oriented gravel tire. Its combination of low rolling resistance, durability, and puncture protection makes it a standout option in the market. Whether you're racing or enjoying a casual ride on gravel paths, the Vulpine is designed to enhance your cycling experience.
