The grapes for this wine are sourced primarily from the parcels named "Au Barby" and "Grand Curoulet" and grown in Jurassic ‘marl' soil. Produced without the signature oxidative notes of traditional Jura wines and called Ouille to denote this, this savagnin acts something like a Burgundy chardonnay. Even so, this wine is still a Jura classic. Shows real concentration and power, with savory, mouthwatering acidity powering through orchard fruit notes layered with salted butter, toasted almond and smoky herbs. Oily and flinty, with tannins picking up steam through the long finish, lined in crushed mineral details and white tea tannins. Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, the 2023 Arbois Savagnin Grand Curoulet Ouillé positively stands out. On the nose, a flinty streak runs through fresh lemon zest and green apple. Medium- to full-bodied, the 2023 is loaded with Savagnin verve and tension, finishing long with a mildly salty note. This outperforms the 2022 I tasted last year.
