Intense ruby red, with purple hues. Sour black cherry, prune, and balsamic with sweet spices, cinnamon, and cloves. Marked sapidity wrapped in elegant softness. Black cherry, blackberry and violet notes permeate this fresh, detailed red. Solidly structured, with fine harmony, expression and length. Just beginning to reveal woodsy, mushroom and underbrush elements, this red is approachable now but will be better in a year or two. Fine length. A focused, serious and well-driven gran selezione with aromas of cherries, strawberries, dried oregano and baking spices. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Compact and focused. Long, flavorful, dense and characterful finish. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2026. The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Capannino is quite a bit darker and more potent than the Gran Selezione Vigne di Montornello tasted alongside it. Both wines are from Castellina, but there's more overt power and richness here, along with a stronger oak imprint. The Vigna del Capannino is attractive but feels just a touch heavy.
