Bell Sixer Mips Helmet The upgrade from the fiver The all-mountain half-shell that can do it all. Introducing the Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet, an extended coverage half-shell loaded with features. Complete with an in-molded construction, a multi-density EPS liner, and Mips® Evolve technology, the Sixer is the perfect helmet for aggressive trail or all-mountain riding. Bell loaded this helmet with vents, including four brow ports, to keep the air flowing while you're riding. The fusion in-mold polycarbonate shell creates a sturdier helmet and is paired with progressive layering that better manages the transfer of energy from certain impacts. With MIPS, the helmet will better reduce rotational forces that can result from angled impacts. The visor is four-position adjustable so you can rest your goggles on top of your helmet when you are climbing and a rubber goggle gripper on the rear of the helmet ensures they don’t slip down. For a secure fit, Bell gave the Sixer their Float Fit Race system, which uses a micro-adjust dial in the rear and vertical and horizontal adjuments for the perfect fit. • Multi-Density EPS Liner: Provides progressive layering that effectively manages energy transfer during impacts.
  • Float Fit Race System: Includes a micro-adjust dial for a secure fit, with vertical and horizontal adjustments to customize the helmet to the rider's head shape.
  • Extensive Ventilation: Features several ventilation ports, including four brow ports, to ensure airflow and keep the rider cool.

Benefits

The Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet excels in providing safety and comfort for aggressive mountain biking. The combination of MIPS technology and an in-mold construction contributes to superior impact protection. The Float Fit Race system ensures a snug fit, which is crucial for both safety and comfort during long rides. Additionally, the extensive ventilation and moisture-wicking features keep riders cool and dry, enhancing overall riding experience.

Potential Drawbacks

While the Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet offers numerous benefits, there are some potential drawbacks to consider:

  • Price Point: The helmet may be considered pricey compared to basic models, which might deter budget-conscious consumers.
  • Size Fit: The sizing may run slightly small, so it is recommended to measure head circumference accurately before purchase.
  • Weight for Long Rides: While relatively lightweight, some riders may prefer even lighter options for endurance events.

Comparison to Similar Products

When comparing the Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet to other helmets in the market, such as the Giro Switchblade and the Smith Mainline, the Sixer stands out for its combination of features geared toward all-mountain riding. While the Giro offers a full-face option, the Bell provides a more versatile half-shell design that balances protection and airflow. The Smith Mainline also features MIPS technology but may lack the extensive ventilation options found in the Sixer.

Practical Usage Tips

  1. Ensure the Float Fit Race system is dialed in properly before hitting the trails for maximum safety.
  2. Adjust the visor to accommodate goggles during climbs, preventing them from slipping or becoming uncomfortable.
  3. Utilize the moisture-wicking liner by cleaning it regularly to maintain hygiene and effectiveness.

Complementary Products

For the best riding experience, consider pairing the Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet with:

  • Bell Super 3R MIPS Full Face Helmet: Provides additional protection for downhill rides while maintaining compatibility with the Sixer's features.
  • Smith Pivlock Arena Max Sunglasses: These sunglasses offer excellent visibility and fit well with the helmet's visor, enhancing protection against sun and debris.
  • Giro Switchblade Gloves: These gloves provide improved grip and comfort while riding, complementing the helmet’s safety features.

Current Trends and Innovations

The Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet reflects current trends in cycling safety, particularly the growing emphasis on MIPS technology for rotational impact protection. As more riders prioritize safety features, the Sixer positions itself as a leading option for those seeking reliable protection without sacrificing comfort. The helmet's extensive ventilation also aligns with trends favoring lightweight and breathable gear for long-distance rides.

In summary, the Bell Sixer MIPS Helmet is a robust choice for all-mountain riders looking for a blend of safety, comfort, and performance. With its advanced features and thoughtful design, it stands out in a competitive market, making it a worthy investment for serious cyclists.
